Hanuwantia Island
Hanuwantia is a rather unknown island in the middle of the Indira Sagar Dam, Asia's second largest reservoir, and one among 90 other islands in the 96 sq. km. reservoir near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Each of these islands is rich with biodiversity. Madhya Dweep is a group of islands in the Indira Sagar dam including Sailani islands (which is another adventure tourism destination and is under development) and Hanuwantiya which is by the bank of Indira Sagar dam. Along with abundant natural beauty, it offers a wide array of water sports during "Jal Mahostav".
Hanuwantiya also host India's only and largest water carnival, Jal Mahotsav, every year. This grand event is a paradise for adventure seekers, art enthusiasts, foodies and tired-of-the-urban-chaos people. Visiting timings – Hanumantiya Tapu is open for visitors from 09:00 am in the morning to 06:00 pm in the evening. Visiting Duration - A typical visit to Hanumantiya Tapu will last for 1.5 to 2 hours. Entry Fee – There are no entry fees to reach Hanumantiya Tapu. The island is situated besides the prestine back waters of Indira Sagar Dam on river Narmada. The best season to visit this place is from November to January . During this period the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department organises "Jal Mahotsava" with lot of adventurous water /land sports, activities. By Rail - Khandwa Railway Station is the nearest station to reach the Hanumantiya Tapu. This railway station is well-connected by trains coming from India's financial capital city. From here, you can get a private cab service or local bus to drop you at the Hanumantiya Tapu.
Sailani Tapu
Situated on the bank of River Narmada and Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa district, Sailani Island near Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga shrine offers a tranquil break to visitors with accommodations at the Sailani Island Resort. Sailani Island is water-adventure tourism destination and does not have any railway connectivity or an air transport. Indore Airport is the nearest airport to this island.
