The Four Gateways
RAISEN
The four gateways or torans at Sanchi, a small village near Raisen, are covered with intricate carvings which portray scenes from the life of Buddha and a few Jataka tales. The Ashoka Pillar among the many pillars here, is constructed in the Greco-Buddhist style. It is from this construct, that the National Emblem of India was adopted.
